Drew Beckie Back In The Nations Capital

Arguably the worst kept secret has finally been let loose. Drew Beckie has been officially signed to Atlético Ottawa. What started with rumours months ago led to a series of leaks ranging from Instagram posts to a Drew Beckie interview where he was seen wearing an Atlético Ottawa tracksuit.

The 6-foot 2 Canadian defender will be making his return to TD Place after his stint with the then NASL side Ottawa Fury where he had 34 appearances. Beckie’s professional career started with the Columbus Crew drafting him 28th overall in 2013. However, due to injury problems, he never saw the MLS Pitch.

On the topic of injury issues, Drew Beckie suffered a cardiac arrest in 2017 due to a condition known as Myocarditis while training in Finland but made a full recovery and returned to playing soccer in North America.

Over in North America, Beckie played for North Carolina, Jacksonville Armada, Oklahoma City Energy, the aforementioned Ottawa Fury, and El Paso Locomotive. According to Trasnfermarkt, the 30-year-old defender has 131 appearances under his belt, with a goal and five assists to go along with it.

Beckie in a sit-down interview with his newest club, describes himself as “a hard working guy, who always will always do what’s best for the team. Help lift guys up, defend well, pass out of the back and to be a leader that will help the club have success”.

Beckie who is looking forward to his return to Ottawa rounds up the roster leak for Atlético Ottawa and answers questions on the topic of Ottawa’s backline. His expertise and leadership will be very valuable to this young side, and he is a very welcome addition to the team.

As mentioned, Drew Beckie is the last player finally announced from the roster leaks. Is this the last signing? Only time will tell, and the only place to be first in the know is CCSG.
