Viti Sent Out On-Loan.

Viti Martinez, the hero of Atletico’s 1-0 win over Pacific, has joined Deportivo Alavez on-loan until the start of training for the 2021 season.




The 23-year-old midfielder will play with the Spanish side’s Segunda Division B team however, there is an opportunity for the Spaniard to break into the first team (who plies their trade in La Liga).


Martinez (who prefers to be referred to as Viti), was one of the expansion club’s first signings when he joined up in April this year from Nastic (Cub Gimnastic de Tarragona).


Viti’s loan deal sees him returning to a familiar league as Nastic, where the Spaniard played for two-years, are also a Segunda Division B side.


Speaking ahead of his move Viti said, “I would like to thank Atletico Ottawa for making my arrival at Deportivo Alaves possible”, before reassuring the fans that this move back to his native land is only temporary.


“This will help me continue to grow and be active as a player. Right now, I am 100% focused on my new team, no doubt I want to return to Ottawa for the 2021 season.”


The news will be welcomed by all fans in the Capital as, with 1 assist and the all important winning goal against Pacfific FC to his name in the 2020 Island Games, the midfielder was one of the stand out performers for the expansion side.




As well as his goal contributions the 23-year-old’s impact was wide reaching. He had the most shots of any Atletico midfeilder (7 with 4 on target) as well as the second most passes (246) and leading the way in blocks (2nd most) and interceptions (9).


In a Press Release from the Ontarian club, Chief Executive Officer Fernando Lopez said, “I am very happy to see Viti continuing to play and compete at a high level.


“We are looking forward to seeing him develop while training throughout the Canadian Premier League off-season.”
